3 cities to visit from Zurich

I'll start by saying that I'm going to pull the sardine for my side *rises*. Having lived here for more than 20 years, practically all my trips around the country start from Zurich, so I decided to show you 3 destinations that you can do from and to in the same day. Why 3? This is one of the ticket options of the Swiss Travel Pass.

I’ll start by saying that I’m going to pull the sardine for my side *rises*. Having lived here for more than 20 years, practically all my trips around the country start from Zurich, so I decided to show you 3 destinations that you can do from and to in the same day. Why 3? This is one of the ticket options of the Swiss Travel Pass. I have chosen places that you don’t need to trade, but I leave very valuable tips in case you want to take the day and visit another city. Your Pass is valid all day, until the transport service ends, which is usually around 5 a.m. the next day. Let’s get to it:

3 cities to visit

  1. Schaffhausen is on the German border and can be reached in just 36 minutes. My tip is to beat the stairs and go to the top of the city’s protection the Munot, built in the 17th century. XVII, from up there, a view of the Rhine River and the forest will make up for every step up, I promise! On the way you can even make a stop at the Rhine River Falls and then take the next connection to Schaffhausen.
  1. In 1 hour’s drive you arrive in the city of San Galo (St. Gallen). Historic and with the Abbey and Libraries belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, you have history and modern architecture in one place. You can combine this with a stop in Winterthur – I recommend a visit to the museum of photography. Stops and entrance to the Museums and Library included in the Swiss Travel Pass.
  1. Between Zurich and Chur it takes 1 hour and 14 minutes, and there are two beautiful lakes: Lake Zurich and Lake Walensee. A nice path to enjoy sitting on the left side in the direction of travel. You leave the largest urban center for the oldest city in the country. In the Canton of the Grisons(see here the blogpost about the world record for the longest treno) that is the only trilingual one. Most likely you will find a milder climate, characteristic of the city. Culture and historical center and even a possibility to go up with a cable car already from the city, isn’t that great?

Our tip

I have selected cities that are off the beaten track, an option for you who want to get away from the obvious. You can do this on your own and using your Swiss Travel Pass or by booking a tour with us to add even more information to your experience.

You have two purchasing options: the continuous (consecutive days, for example November 7, 8 and 9) or Flex, where you can choose, within a period of 1 month the days you want to use it (for example: November 7, 9 and 11). Learn more about purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass here.
