Combine Lausanne and Vevey in one day

Arriving in the city of Lausanne by train from Zurich, for example, feels like sailing through the Lavaux vineyards. If you sit on the left side you can enjoy the mountain/lake/vineyard combination. Staying in Lausanne or even coming from Geneva, the options to enjoy this region only increase.

When I am on a trip, discovering other places for you, I like to test several ‘models’. And one of them is to use the boat for a stretch and come back by train. Remember that between November and March the frequency of boats on all Swiss lakes decreases and some stretches may even be altered. So be careful when planning your trip independently. In case you give us the pleasure of organizing your stay through consulting or planning these details will be done by us, directly, you receive everything described and detailed, just enjoy.

What to do in Vevey?

From Lausanne you have an average of 13 minutes by train to Vevey, without interchange. Strolling along the waterfront, having lunch at the Ze Fork restaurant, and visiting the Charles Chaplin Museum is a beautiful itinerary for a day trip (you get to the Chaplin Museum by bus). Right next to the restaurant you’ll find the Museum Alimentarium and in front of it the famous sculpture“The Fork” by Neuchâtel-born Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Zaugg. Made of stainless steel and measuring 8 meters high 1.3m wide it has been in the Guinness Book of Records since 2014 as the world’s largest fork.

After you take your picture of (or with) the sculpture you will notice that the statue of the city’s most famous inhabitant is also very close by: Charles Chaplin.

The historic center of Vevey is charming, tiny but with local stores, cafes and restaurants. I like to walk around slowly, looking at the details of the buildings, their colors and contrasts, listening to the local language. Only a few hours from Zurich and so different, it all goes beyond the language, or even because of it. Another language brings with it culture, gastronomy and much more, don’t you think? And this is what you will experience by traveling through Switzerland and touring these three main regions: French, German and Italian.

Local and seasonal food

I personally love to try the local and seasonal cuisine. When I was at the Ze Fork restaurant, for example, the salad had an autumnal touch with fresh mushrooms. I also suggest trying the local wines, which you can order just a glass, as well as the bottle. Grape, here known as Chasselas is highly recommended. If you are not an expert with wines, like me for example, ask for a suggestion according to your dish.

What other details do you like to experience when you are traveling? The culture, gastronomy, art? I will love to know more about you.

Wishing you a good trip, be it gastronomic or cultural, Luci
