The answer is definitely yes. However, it depends on your needs which pass is the most suitable and offers the best value for money. At Destination Switzerland, we ourselves travel by train whenever possible and know all the tips and tricks to make the journey not only quick and comfortable, but also an unforgettable experience.

What are the different Swiss Travel Pass offers?

The Swiss Travel Pass offers several options, which are worth checking out. How many days would you like to spend on the train? Should train journeys be made all at once, i.e. several days in a row, or divided into individual days during a longer stay? And last but not least: Would you like to enjoy the luxury and comfort of first class, with wider seats and extra legroom, luggage and generally less crowded carriages? The answers to these questions will be easier for you if you read the following considerations:

How many days should my Swiss Travel Pass be valid for?

First of all, there’s the question of how many days the pass should be used. If someone wants to visit different destinations and enjoy the scenery during the train journey, often from a spectacular perspective that car travelers can’t see, it’s worth using a multi-day pass. If the aim is to connect a few selected places or take day trips out of a city, it could be as little as 3 or 4 days. You can find all the possible durations for a Swiss Travel Pass here.

Are you traveling several days in a row or repeatedly with the Swiss Travel Pass?

There are reasons to explore the country by train during a fixed part of the trip or to take individual day trips spread over the entire stay. The second solution is the Swiss Travel Pass Flex, where the travel dates do not have to be consecutive. This means, for example, that day trips covering a longer distance, such as to the Titlis, the Jungfrau region or French-speaking Switzerland, can also be easily completed from Zurich in a single day. Another option is to travel on one of the spectacular special one-day routes and thus benefit from favorable prices and only need seat reservations for the Glacier Express, the Bernina Express or the Golden Pass Line.

Is the luxury of first class with the Swiss Travel Pass worth it?

Standard class (2nd class) already offers a lot of comfort, enough space, clean compartments and everything you need to travel. However, buying the Swiss Travel Pass in first class offers additional comfort and generally less space in the compartments, especially during the high travel season. This makes the trip even more relaxing, which can make a difference, especially on long days, when traveling with children and/or older people or those with mobility restrictions. Good to know: There is no class difference in urban transport (streetcar, bus) or on Postbus routes.
