Lucy is coming!

Today, Thursday, November 24, '22 at precisely 6 p.m. local time, Lucy shows off all the sparkle of her more than 11,500 crystals and 23,100 LED lights on Switzerland's most famous street: Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse.

The Beatles’ song“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was the inspiration for the name of the lighting on Zurich’s main street at Christmas. It officially brings the Christmas atmosphere in Switzerland’s largest city. So that we can make even better use of it, transportation is totally diverted at the time it is lit. There will be a total of 9 streetcar lines making a special route so that the whole street will be free for pedestrians between 5:30 pm and 9:15 pm.

Christmas Markets

The stores will have special hours, staying open exceptionally until 9 pm, when they normally close at 8 pm. The various Christmas markets throughout the city also begin this Thursday, and Zurich is privileged to have several. Let’s go to them:

Other attraction tips

Besides the markets above I leave you with two other wonderful tips:

  • In the courtyard of the National Museum (Landesmuseum) until December 30 ’22 you have the illuminarium (free admission), food, the traditional hot wine with spices, from 7 pm local DJ’s and the possibility to see the projection show (this one paid).
  • And in Zurich West is the city’s most colorful and lively garden: Frau Gerolds Garten, decorated and full of possibilities for food and drink.

I’m curious to know what you like best about the markets. Food, hot wine, decoration or shopping? 😉

PS: The beautiful Christmas markets are happening in other cities in Switzerland and you can make trips to them using your Swiss Travel Pass. And you can check the train return times via the SBB (Swiss transport system) app.

Wishing you many meetings and hugs, Luci
