4 tips for you to enjoy the city of Zurich when the temperature drops in the northern hemisphere.
Breakfast
First of all enjoy a good breakfast, without haste and with typical specialties. Locals love a coffee with a croissant (here called “Gipfeli” in Swiss dialect) or a Birchermüesli (or Müesli), a Swiss creation with oatmeal, fruit, and a multitude of variations. Then it’s time to enjoy the historic center. Here I suggest an experience in culture and history through a walking tour through the medieval streets between the Limmat river, the most important churches and the famous Bahnhofstrasse.
Lunch
For lunch you have two great tips right in the center: Hiltl, the oldest restaurant in the world (according to the Guinness Book of Records) or the Zeughauskeller, with a wonderful local menu will not let you down. A great idea is to opt for the Hiltl at lunch and reserve the second for dinner. Here’s my tip: be sure to make your reservation, especially at night! The culture here is to dine early, from 6 pm on you can already find very full restaurants, even more so in winter.
Infinity pool in the city
Recently you have been to one of the coolest Spa & Thermal Baths in the region: Hürlimannbad & Spa. Just a few minutes away from Bahnhofstrasse, in a former brewery, you can have a few hours of pure relaxation. My tip is the spa – you have a circuit (all self explanatory and written in German and English) between sauna (the whole spa area is with swimwear), exfoliation, relaxation area, jacuzzi, etc. Allow about 3 hours for the whole experience. Inside you have a bistro and the highlight (literally) is the infinity pool overlooking the city of Zurich. A special and unforgettable experience. One observation: cell phone use is forbidden in the entire indoor area. Enjoy this moment all to yourself.
Japanese Tea time
Between one walk and another we always want to take a break to rest from the cold. A good environment for this is Café Miyuko (page in German). On my most recent visit I was able to try the hot chocolate and I can assure you: one of the best in town. Miyuko is an experience from the get-go. All decorated with manga, you will feel like you are on a teleportation, a real bridge between Zurich and Japan. Her pies are a delight, for the eyes and the palate. Here is a great option for you who are vegetarian/vegan or celiac.
Then: What to do in Zurich in the cold season? The city of Zurich is a box of surprises, and reveals itself on every street, come and discover its secrets and off-the-beaten-path places through an experience with us. A tour service is something that will optimize and add a lot to your trip, and you will have more time to appreciate every detail. And you, what do you like to do in the cities during the winter?
