World Record for the Canton of Graubünden

The Rhätische Bahn transport company, located in the northeastern part of the Canton of Graubünden (Graubünden), devised and successfully operated last Saturday, October 29, 2022, the incredible journey through the Alps and the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Albula Tunnel, with the aim of breaking the world record for the "longest passenger train in the world."

A train trip through Switzerland is a must in your stay, and I can prove it!

The Rhätische Bahn transport company, located in the northeastern canton of Graubünden, designed and successfully operated last Saturday, October 29, 2022, the incredible journey through the Alps and the region of Albula Tunnel UNESCO World Heritage Sitewith the goal of beating the World Record of the “world’s longest passenger train”.

The images speak for themselves, a spectacle of nature and human engineering and the collective work of thousands of people. The trains were operated by 21 technicians and 7 train drivers. The 25 cars, alternating with 4 locomotives, reached a length of 1,906m – almost 2 km. Leaving at 2:20 pm from Preda, going over the amazing Landwasser viaduct and arriving at 3:30 pm in Alvaneu, when the World Record result is given, a stretch of almost 25 km.

The route included the impressive numbers of 48 bridges and 22 tunnels, crossing an altitude close to 790m (Preda = 1788.7 and Alvaneu = 999.3 m above sea level).

Do you know what is most amazing? This section you can do during your trip through Switzerland using your Swiss Travel Pass, in case of a regular train it is 100% included. If you choose to take the Bernina or Glacier Express route, a seat reservation is required.

The route is known as the “Albula Line”, and you can take it from Chur to St. Moritz. The Grisons region is world-renowned for its most glamorous destination: St. Moritz, but it encompasses dozens of other locations that will delight you, in any season.
